About
Originally, I grew up with 90s anime (particularly Sailor Moon), 80s hair metal, 90s alternative and punk. I am a big supporter of Manchester United.
When I was young, I was introduced to Thai alternative music and the Manic Street Preachers concert in Bangkok in 1994 by DJ Wasana Wirachartplee. I spent my life watching MTV, Channel V, and VH1 from the 1990s to the 2000s.
My music career began in 2004 when I created tracks with a sampler that used sounds recorded from a Windows XP-powered LG desktop PC. I later learned to play bass and rhythm guitar on a black Ibanez Prestige I borrowed from my nephew. Concurrently, I started working as a live sound engineer and programmer. In 2007, I traveled to Manchester, England, and lived for a brief period in Auckland, New Zealand, with my aunt. My past work experience includes part-time jobs as a teenager, working as a butcher and a dishwasher. Additionally, I am a fan of horror movies.
In my early musical career, from 2007 to 2012, I played bass and rhythm guitar in many local cover bands that covered 70s and 80s rock, 90s alternative, metal songs (often focusing on 80s glam metal, ballad rock, and AOR).
In 2015, I began making music with Vocaloid Megurine Luka, using the names ArtDavidAlternative and ArtDavidAlternativeMusic (from 2015 to 2018, although my YouTube channel retained the old name until its official change in 2020). In 2018, I rebranded as Art Dave (Art Dave Thai Indie Producer) to better reflect my focus on indie-oriented music, often utilizing SynthV and other vocal synthesis programs. I also create my own artwork for my subsequent projects.
I prefer the titles "vocal synth producer" or "indie vocal synth producer." I've fully transitioned from using the Vocaloid program to Synthesizer V, so terms like "Vocaloid producer" and "Voca-P"/"Vocalo-P" are no longer accurate. My current focus is on lesser-known or moderately known voicebanks, along with a deeper involvement in the indie music scene.
Although I'm often mistakenly referred to as a Vocaloid producer, I haven't had any direct ties to that community since leaving the Vocaloid forum website (vocaloidotaku.net) in early 2016. I'm now active in the SynthV and broader vocal synth communities. I've rejected both the "Vocaloid producer" label and the "-P" suffix, as they no longer reflect my identity. My interests lie firmly in SynthV content, and I rarely engage with Cryptonloid- or Miku-related works, or other mainstream Vocaloid content.
My musical style is heavily inspired by Thai alternative rock from the 90s, as well as indie rock, post-punk, jangle pop, psychedelic rock, and grunge. It also incorporates my initial influences from classic rock, reggae, 80s glam metal and glam punk, which I developed in my early career in the 2000s. Since the 2010s, I've added later influences from shoegaze, and 90s anime music. While I rarely incorporate elements of J-pop or J-rock, my sound leans more toward American and British indie rock influences.
I draw inspiration from a wide range of artists and bands. In my early musical career, these included Scorpions, Kiss, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Jaco Pastorius, Joy Division/New Order, Manic Street Preachers, Japan, The Durutti Column, The Wedding Present, Noir Désir, Jesus Jones, Pop Will Eat Itself, Hüsker Dü, The Lemonheads, Cocteau Twins, Everything But The Girl, Primal Scream, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Chameleons, Motörhead, The Byrds, Joan Jett, The Smiths, Cardiacs, Cheap Trick, King's X, Enuff Z'Nuff, Iggy Pop, Suede, Blur, The Stone Roses, Super Furry Animals, R.E.M., Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Radiohead, The Cure, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis.
Since the 2010s, my influences have expanded to include The Libertines, Gang of Four, U2, Faith No More, Bad Brains, Ramones, The Police, Asylum Party, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Beatles, Horace Andy, Barrington Levy, Bob Marley, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Slowdive, The Triffids, Bailter Space, Straitjacket Fits, Chris Knox, The Chills, Swans, Jefferson Airplane, Screaming Trees, Spiritualized, Gaye Bykers on Acid, She Past Away, and Lebanon Hanover. (My major musical influences are: David Bowie, Joy Division, New Order, The Lemonheads, Manic Street Preachers, Japan/David Sylvian, Pino Palladino, Noir Désir, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Cheap Trick, The Stone Roses, Oasis, The Smiths and Spacemen 3)
Since 2022, I've primarily focused on indie rock, jangle pop, power pop, classic rock, psychedelic rock, and post-punk, with less emphasis on shoegaze. While some dream pop and shoegaze elements still surface, I'm no longer aiming for a full shoegaze sound; honestly, I've simply lost interest as it doesn't truly highlight my artistic strengths. My roots are in punk, jazz, blues rock, and avant-garde music. These days, I've also returned to the glam, punk, and classic rock influences from my 90s childhood.
I frequently use an octave-string bass (8- or 12-string) in my songs. My experimentation with a 12-string bass guitar provided a layered, orchestral low-end and a more harmonically rich tone than standard basses. This sound, rarely heard in shoegaze and indie contexts, is more commonly associated with rock and metal. Consequently, I've become increasingly interested in rock and metal bands that emphasize 12-string bass playing. I also use a fretless bass for some of my songs.
My guitar collection includes a Kazuki Strat, a Squier Stratocaster, a now-broken Baracuda Les Paul, an Epiphone ES-335 semi-hollow, and a 12-string guitar (Fender FSR Traditional Stratocaster XII). I also use a MIDI guitar and a variety of basses: P-bass, J-bass, Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz fretless bass, double bass, 8-string bass, and a 12-string bass (Chinese-made 12-string).
Previously, I lived in Bangkok for many years. However, due to financial constraints, I relocated to my parents' hometown, Samut Sakhon, where I have resided since 2019.
Primarily, my time is spent on personal life and professional work. My outside engagements include occasional sound technician work for small live concerts and sessions, along with serving as a session bassist and mastering engineer for other indie artists.
